Georgia Customs and Import Duties for Imported Vehicles

How Georgian import duty is calculated for cars — engine size, vehicle age, the environmental fee, and what documents you need for clearance.

Georgia Customs and Import Duties for Imported Vehicles

Georgia is one of the more import-friendly countries in the region, which is a big reason so many cars arrive from US auctions. Still, customs duty is a real cost and you should understand it before you bid.

How the duty is calculated

Georgian vehicle import duty is built around two main factors:

  • Engine displacement — measured in cubic centimeters. A larger engine means a higher duty.
  • Vehicle age — older vehicles carry an age coefficient that increases the charge.

There is also an environmental / excise component tied to the engine. The practical takeaway: a small, newer engine is taxed far more lightly than a large, older one. If duty efficiency matters to you, favor cars with smaller-displacement engines.

Documents you'll need

  • The original US title (or export certificate) in the importer's name.
  • The bill of sale / auction purchase invoice.
  • The bill of lading from the shipping line.
  • Your identification documents.

A broker assembles and submits these for you, which is why working with an experienced importer makes clearance fast and predictable.

After clearance

Once duty is paid and the car clears customs, you register the vehicle and receive Georgian plates. The car is then fully legal to drive and sell.

Estimate before you bid

Because duty depends so heavily on engine size and age, it's worth estimating before the auction, not after. Our calculator includes the Georgian duty logic so you see the full landed cost up front. Questions about a specific car? Ask our team.
